My experience with wine

When was my first sip of wine you may ask? Well if my mother is reading this then it was after my twenty-first birthday. Let's be honest though, I was in my teens when I had my first encounter with wine. I tried red wine first, a generic Walmart brand, at first I loved it but I knew nothing about wine. The different flavors, where it came from, I was completely ignorant. So I just drank what I had and managed to find myself sick from the very next day. Ever since that one experience I have despised red wine. I cannot take a sip without wanting to spit it out, I have ruined my pallet for it. However, white wine on the other hand is completely different. I strayed away from wine ever since my night of debauchery with my Walmart brand handle, and didn't have white wine until a few years later. I was way more captivated with the taste and how different it was. I would drink Prosecco mostly with mimosas and would cook with Pinot Grigio, so I started to really expand my pallet.

I would have a glass of wine here and there with my friends but it wasn't until I met my now boyfriend that I discovered my appeal for wine in general. My boyfriend grew up in a family that drank wine for dinner, his father is a connoisseur because he cooks extravagant meals quite frequently and is quire knowledgable when it comes to the right pairing of wines to eat with dinner. My boyfriend worked for Frankie Rowlands while he was getting his masters degree in college so he quickly picked up the right way to present wine and has taught me a lot on how to open the bottles, and how to drink it basically.

I never felt more unknowledgeable on alcohol before, but he has taught me way more and helped branch me out to different sorts of wine other than the pretty wines like rosé . Since my boyfriend is a wine enthusiast, we make sure to have a glass if we go out to dinner or make something special at home. Out of all of the wines that I have tried, Riesling is my go-to because I still like the sweet flavor it brings, I enjoy sweeter wines but I will usually go with a Chardonnay if I'm out having dinner.

My pallet for wine has expanded, I even went to the Bellevue Farms winery over the summer and got to try some of there signatures and found the atmosphere to be breathtaking. I still would like to branch out a little bit more, and try to build my red wine pallet because I aways seem to be the only one drinking white wine when it comes to friends and family. Or maybe I should stick with taste buds and drink my white wine proudly in front of others. Depends on the mood I suppose.
